Lament

Life is a cabaret, old chum. Β  Β©TD2016

you thought
you’d get away
at night and fog
slipping through the gate

look at the pathetic you
not even clothes to wear

you thought
you’d come out of the battle unblemished
wrapped tightly in your armour
striking high from the horse’s back

look at the victorious you
every mirror is a peril

you thought
you wouldn’t need to pay
you were even with your trustees
but they mortgaged your life

look at the insolvent you
pleading for reimbursement.

    1. So nice of you to say this, Kate. I had to stop blogging because I couldn’t keep up with all the reading and replying and it started to stress me out and eating up my time. Have to find a different approach to get my writing out…Still reading a few selected blogs and it feels much more enjoyable this way.
      have a lovely week dear!

  1. Firstly, I love that photo. A woman/child with a monochromatic gaze.

Then there’s the line ‘every mirror is a peril’ which I like even more than the photo.
